WHOIS … Yikes!

Here’s something I recently learned…

So you’ve set up your own self-hosted blog and are happily going on your way when you decide to quickly WHOIS your own domain.  If you don’t know what this is, check it out here:

http://domains.whois.com/domain.php?action=whois

When I happened to do this, I discovered (to my horror) that all my information was laid bare for the world to see!  Yikes!!!

That’s when I found out about ‘Private Registration’ at GoDaddy.  Most domain places have similar features you can buy (or they come for free at some sites) where they’ll mask your private information in the WHOIS Database by using a third party as a contact point.

Something to definitely do ASAP once you setup your own domain!
