Review of Lone Star Texas Grill – Pickering

We just finished watching Ballet Girl’s dance class, it was 6:00pm and we were starving.  I was also looking to go to a restaurant I hadn’t reviewed yet.  So we ended up moseying on over to the Lone Star Texas Grill in Pickering.

Was it a dinner that made us shout ‘Yeehaw!’ or was it as painful as a brand iron on the behind?  Read on for our review and a video trailer of the classic western “The Magnificent Seven” to get you in the Western mood!

Details: Lone Star Texas Grill, 3705 Kingston Road, Pickering, ON, (905) 420-3334, www.lonestartexasgrill.com.

Ambience:  Lone Star goes all out with the Texas Theme from decor to wait staff clothing.  Lots of booths and tables but not too crowded.  Highlight of the space was the Tortilla Oven in the middle of the restaurant; the kids couldn’t get enough of watching the dough balls transform into tortilla breads!  Kudos to our waiter who was very friendly and made our dinner enjoyable!

Kids Stuff:  Nice placemat/menu with new crayons and lots of activities on the sheet.  But Book Boy didn’t touch it, he just wanted to watch the torts cookin’.

Kids Food:  Standard kids grub but a touch on the expensive side (most meals $6.99).  Cheapest item is Grilled Cheese at $5.99 and most expensive is the Little Cowboy Steak (7 oz) at $10.99!  Our kids ordered the Chicken Fingers and the portions were BIG so if you think one of your two kids can share your fajita plate, just order one kids meal and save some money.  We had SO much food left over.

Coolest Thing About Restaurant:  Tortilla oven, free Nacho Corn Chips to munch on while you wait.

Worst Thing About Restaurant:  Aside from Book Boy’s milk spilling (because they ran out of glass lids),the prices seemed a bit high.

Tips to Consider: Beware of your kids filling up on Nacho Chips before dinner (it happened to us).  If you get tired of Nacho Chips, you can ask for some Tortillas instead to munch on.

Trailer for “The Magnificent Seven” to get you in the Western mood:

Clean Mom Commentary: “Mmm, my Vegetable Fajitas were delicious.”

Ballet Girl Commentary: “The Chicken Fingers were too spicy.”

Book Boy Commentary: “The Mexican Rice was too spicy.”

Overall Experience:  Loved the Nachos, liked the Tortillas, didn’t mind the food, wasn’t fond of the prices.  For our family of 4, total bill (tax plus tip) came to just over $50.  For the amount of food our kids actually ate and enjoyed, it wasn’t amazing value for the dollar.
