Review of Eggs Up Grill – Ajax
Last Sunday, the family decided to go out for breakfast and decided upon the newly opened Eggs Up Grill in Ajax, across the street from the Walmart/Home Depot plaza. Find out whether the restaurant *egg-cited* us or *cracked* us up instead… sorry, couldn’t resist…
Also read about some neat Egg Facts that you may not have known!
Details: Eggs Up Grill Inc, 14-279 Kingston Road East, Ajax, ON 905-619-3282
Ambience: Decor and atmosphere were similar to most little breakfast restaurants we’ve been to (i.e. Sunset Grill, Michael’s Eatery and the like). When we went at 9:00 am on Sunday, the place was packed but we found seats within a couple of minutes.
Kids Stuff: Kids place-mat doubled as a colouring page with used crayons provided. And boy were they needed… read on…
Kids Food: Kids breakfast at $5.99 was pretty steep considering what you got (just food, no drink). Book Boy ordered the pancakes (2 large pancakes for $5.99) and while they were tasty, they were hard to cut as they were overcooked on one side. Parents’ breakfasts were average.
Coolest Thing About Restaurant: Clean Mom thought the home style potatoes at Eggs Up Grill tasted better than other restaurants’ breakfast potatoes.
Worst Thing About Restaurant: The wait and the wait staff. After ordering, it took almost 40 minutes for us to receive our food… 40 MINUTES!!! While we were waiting, it was like watching a mini-drama as the waitresses fought and bickered with each other over table assignments. Watching one roll her eyes, another complain to the manager, etc… not fun. Finally, even though we waited SOOO long, no apology.
Tips to Consider: Wait a few months for them to work out the kinks before visiting this restaurant… try them in April, 2010?

Egg Facts: Taken from the Eggs Up Grill menu, here are some interesting Egg Facts:
Eggs contain all the essential protein, minerals and vitamins, except Vitamin C. But egg yolks are one of the few foods that naturally contain Vitamin D.
Canada has approximately 1,100 registered egg farms.
The average egg farm has 10,000 to 20,000 hens, although Canadian egg farms can range from a few hundred to more than 400,000 hens.
In Canada, a total of 25 million hens (including unregistered hens) produce about 500 million dozen eggs per year – that’s 6 billion eggs!
The egg industry contributes about $500 million to the Canadian Economy.
Overall Experience: Food was average but wait time and wait staff were not good. With the abundance of other breakfast spots in the surrounding Ajax and Pickering area, we will probably not be coming back.
Rating: 2.0 stars out of 5

March 2011 – Once you’re seated, the food doesn’t take as long to come anymore. It looks like they have an additional cook. I agree 100% that the wait staff could be better. If they were working for me, I’d fire them. They all seem to be miserable. Except for one, they have no ounce of proper customer service in them. They really are not friendly. I don’t get the feeling that they even want the business you’re giving them. So sad really. The place needs someone to observe what’s going on and then have a game plan how to implement changes so majority of the time, the customer’s experience is great. If there was another breakfast place close to it or across from it and they have better customer service – guess who’ll be getting my business………….
I saw a waitress stick her finger in somebody’s drink, fish out some debris, then server it to them. I waiting over 40 minutes for my food, then they forgot my bacon.
Then finally brought it after I finished half my breakfast, and it was soggy when I asked for it extra crispy. They took it back and never brought the new crispy bacon back. I had to ask for it and they said “oh sorry”.
Guess what, they new bacon was soggy.
This place is a mess that the ministry of health should close down.
