Review of Carole’s Cheesecake – Toronto

While going on a (torturous) shopping trip with the family, we bumped into lunch-time with no definite plans. In the industrial park that we were in (looking at lighting stores), I noticed a Café sign. After a brief peek through the window, we decided to step inside and give it a try… and what a surprise we got! Find out if it was a good or bad surprise and watch a Muppets video tribute to… Cheesecake!

Details: Carole’s Cheesecake Company Ltd., 1272 Castlefield Avenue, Toronto ON, 416-256-0000, www.carolescheesecake.com.

Café hours are restricted (Monday to Thursday: 10-5 pm, Friday: 10-4 pm, Saturday: 10-5 pm, Sunday: Closed) as they’re a cheesecake manufacturing facility first, Café second.

Ambiance: From the outside, looks like a hole in the wall.  Once you go inside though, it has a cozy, modern cafe feel with requisite artsy pieces and a large cheesecake refrigerated display.  Booths all around, perfect for our family of 4.  And the smell…  just thinking about the bakery smell that greets you as you walk in brings my mind instantly back to the Café!

Kids Stuff: Food came quickly so none needed … (ok, ok, the truth is I can’t remember if they had colouring or not… sue me…)

Kids Food: Not the cheapest place for the kids to eat at.  Book Boy’s grilled cheese was $6.95 (for the sandwich and some potato chips).  Sure it was 6 (?) year old aged cheddar, but could he tell the difference (for the record, he couldn’t).  At least Ballet Girl’s PB&J sandwich was reasonable at $2.95.  We added a side Caesar for their greens (which was ok).

Parents’ Food:  I had the grilled panini (ok) and Clean Mom had the soup and sandwich (which she enjoyed).  Then we all shared a slice of Strawberry Cheesecake… HEAVEN!

Coolest Thing About Restaurant: The quality of the food was good and the fresh cheesecake was GREAT!  A nice surprise of a Café where you wouldn’t expect to find one (in an industrial park of all places…).

Worst Thing About Restaurant:  Kids meal selection and prices weren’t all that good but I’m sure the family diners aren’t their target clientele given their location..

Overall Experience: We love finding hidden gems like this restaurant when we eat out.  The booth was cozy to sit at for the family, the lunch food was good and the dessert was great which was enough to make the cost to eat here worth it.  Total cost of meal was $56.00 (tax and tip included).

p.s. If you’re in the US, make sure to try out the Cheesecake Factory as well!
