Review of Milos Greek Restaurant – Pickering

miloslogo

At this Greek restaurant (formerly “The Friendly Greek’s), our kids had their first taste of Greek food and we continue to come back.

Ambience:  Not much was changed when the brands switched (management stayed the same).  Greek decor, fireplace in the middle; comfy family atmosphere.

Kids Stuff:  The kids menu is also a colouring page but not much else.  Crayons are in styrafoam cups (so not the most sanitary) but good selection of colours.  As the food delivery was quick (as most Greek restaurants are), you don’t have to keep the kiddies entertained for too long.

Kids Food:  Good selection and prices are reasonable (approx. $5 to 6).  Book Boy usually orders his fish and rice while Ballet Girl shares his fish and part of Clean Mom’s rice/chicken as well.  No drinks come with their meals (boo!) but this is made up for by the yummy garlic bread (yay!).

Coolest Thing About Restaurant:  Aside from the occasional OPA! with the flaming saganaki, the greek salad is fresh and the garlic bread is tasty.  This complements the generous servings of food very well.

Worst Thing About Restaurant:  The washroom had a plugged toilet but that can happen anywhere and they were quick to fix it.

Money Tip:  If you live in the Durham Region, you can usually find a coupon for (buy one dinner, get the 2nd dinner at half price) in the small, home improvement booklets you get in the mail or on the cardboard coupons that people hang on your door!

Overall Experience:  They have their regular waiters who make you feel at home.  Couple this with great food at good prices and you have a regular dinner place that should be considered by all families.

Rating:  3.0 stars out of 5

Update – April 2010

Not quite sure what’s happened but we recently went there and did not have as good an experience as the last time.  They forgot to bring us the colouring sheets for the kids, the food took an extremely long time to arrive and the server (an older gentleman this time) was definitely not as friendly as our last server.  It just goes to show how an impression of a restaurant can be greatly affected by the person who serves you.

Rating has been lowered from 3.5 to 3 stars.

I had the privilege of eating at Milos’ for the first time this past weekend and I have to say I agree! The food is delicious and the portions are very generous. I will definitely return!

A group of us had ordered take out one evening before a major event. Everyone had the chicken souvalki and I was the unfortunate one to have the poisoned Mousaka, as it was my favourite Greek dish. What a terrible decision!!! I’m not certain how old the Mousaka was or what was done to it? I had severe food poisoning!!! I’ve never had food poisoning and I would never wish it on anyone else. It was torture and seemed like it lasted a lifetime. Took me four days to get back to normal from the ordeal and will never return (or recommend) Milos Greek Restaurant. I’ve tried numerous times to contact the owner…..without any success.

Wow, what an ordeal (but I’m glad you recovered!).

While I haven’t had this type of experience at Milos’ (and when viewing their food prep area with the kids from our table, everything looked clean and well kept), you just never know what can happen. I once had a similar experience with a high end restaurant in the north end of the city… very painful. Thanks for sharing your experience with us and if I ever chat with the owner, I’ll let him know.

vegetables were disgusting. Will not go back. Ever

WORST Greek restaurant in the GTA.
Since when is a toasted hot dog bun acceptable with your greek salad appetizer? This should have been the first warning that the main course would be equally appalling…

No apology and no discount offered. It’s clear that the management of this establishment has no love for food or their customers.

    Avoid at all costs!

Ouch… sad to hear your experience wasn’t good. I actually don’t mind the garlic bread… although it was a bit bigger than a hot dog bun though… ;-)
