Keeping New Year’s Resolutions

Eating breakfast with the family on January 1, 2010, I happened to ask the family what each person’s resolution was for the New Year, to help them become a better person.
Here’s a quick tip that you, as a Busy Dad, can apply to help you keep your resolutions in 2010 and find out what the funniest resolution uttered at the breakfast table was!
When making any resolution, ensure that the resolution is a S.M.A.R.T. one.
S.M.A.R.T. stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonable and Timely. If your resolution can meet all of the above criteria, you can increase your chances for success in keeping and achieving your resolution.
One of my resolutions is to consistently live the habit of “Seek first to understand, then to be understood” both at home and at work for 2010. If I can master this habit, then a lot of other things will fall into place such as being a better listener with my family, having a ’space’ between event and reaction (which will make me more even-tempered), etc.
However, the best resolution uttered had to be from Ballet Girl. When we asked our 4 year-old daughter what her New Year’s resolution was this year, she paused, then answered …
“To make more muscles.”
May you find a SMART resolution that will help you become a better father and husband for 2010 and may 2010 bring all of us much happiness and abundance.
Happy New Year!
