Group Discounts for Parents in the Durham Region and GTA

A couple of months ago, my sister let me know about how Group Discount programs work.  There are many out there, mainly catering to the larger cities.  Since then, I’ve been trying to find ones that cater to the Durham Region.

Flipping through the latest issue of Durham Parent, I’ve finally found one!  Here’s a recap of my experience and what you can expect!

Catering to the Durham Region

Here are the main ones that I’ve found that are applicable (and active) to all you parents in the Durham Region:

WagJag – This is the original site I found in the Durham Parent newspaper.  Read below about my experience purchasing through their site.

.

GroupOn – One of the largest group discount programs.  One of the cities you can select is Oshawa but by selecting this city, you actually get access to deals in other Durham cities (i.e. Whitby).

Other Different Group Discount Programs

I found a great existing article already written on the topic at www.walletpop.ca.  Although I didn’t initially find the Durham one from here, I did learn about a couple of other ones.  I saw the original one my sister tipped me off to a while back (GroupClick, now called Deal Find) and it was graded a B – !  Sheesh!

Does it really work?

The only way to find out is to try!  So after seeing a tempting offer for South Street Burger Grill on WagJag, I registered on the site and purchased some “$5 for $10 worth of food” vouchers.  The registration process was relatively painless but there were some glitches in the drop down boxes (I now officially live in Alberta…).

If the deal activates (when enough people purchase it), then after the purchasing window closes, you’re supposed to get the vouchers via email.

When this happens, I’ll combine a review of the Ajax South Street Burger Grill with my experience with the coupon.

Final Verdict (sort of…)

With the registration process being relatively easy, it’s hard not to like getting a deal sent to your inbox for stores/restaurants close to where you live.  When you eat out as much as we do, it’s even more fun to find and use the deals.

Stay tuned for our next post detailing our full experience and Happy Saving!
