Eight Cool Movies Your Kids Probably Haven’t Seen (but maybe should…)
At a recent BBQ with some friends, we got into a discussion about some classic kids movies that we enjoyed back in the days, but that our kids hadn’t seen. With all the Disney and mega-productions out there, what were some movies that we loved as kids that we could share with the next generation?
If you have kids between 5 and 12 years old, check out the following movie list and enjoy!
1. Return to Witch Mountain / Escape to Witch Mountain

Coolest movies ever, brother and sister having super powers, c’mon man! And imho, way better than ‘The Rock’ version!
2. The Last Mimzy

Another brother sister movie where they get super powers, c’mon man!
3. The Secret of Nimh

I thought this movie was just ‘ok’ but Book Boy and Ballet Girl love watching it over and over and over and…
4. E.T. The Extra Terrestrial

Back in the day, different language was acceptable in kids’ movies so be wary of stray swear words.
5. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Have to show your kids the original, much better music than Depp’s version!
6. Mrs. Doubtfire

Another movie with a couple of stray swear words but just an amazing message at the end … made Clean Mom cry…
7. Holes

The extra bonus is that the book that this movie was based on is really, really good! Might get your child hooked on reading … if they aren’t already. The book’s sequel, Small Steps by Louis Sachar, has some sexual innuendo that might not be appropriate for younger readers though…
8. Space Camp
If your child loves space and has always wanted to be an astronaut, this is the movie for them! Again, a couple of stray swear words to watch out for.
9. Other Movies We Want to Show Them Eventually
-The Never Ending Story – I remember this being a good one, going to have to see it again.
-The Goonies – Adventure, humour, pirate ships… can’t ask for much more
-The Secret Garden – Book Boy loved the book. Not sure how good the movie is though…
