I don’t know if there’s anything more frightening for a Dad than when he starts to realize that his daughter’s growing up and is started to become interested in boys (start horrid imaginings of possible things that could go wrong……..NOW!)
As many of you who follow this blog know, Ballet Girl is 5 years old, sometimes going on 15. Nowhere is this more apparent than when it comes to The Beeb.

One of the real rewards of being a Dad is capturing those unscripted moments where your kids say the cutest things. In this case, it’s a song instead of a quote!
So to complement the nice weather finally approaching (or if you’re just having a bad day), here’s Ballet Girl with a song (we previously recorded for our Voicemail) to cheer you up!
Click the link to hear Ballet Girl’s Song here: Zip a dee doo da. It takes a bit for her to get going but once she does, there’s no turning back!!!
And if you have a special voicemail that you’ve been wanting to transfer over and save to your computer, check out our tutorial post on how to do just that!
Have a great summer everyone!
Ballet Girl is brave, loving, smart, funny … and afraid of the dark. In the middle of the night, we’ll hear pitter patter of feet then feel a small body jump into bed with us. With her 5th birthday coming up, Clean Mom and I were desperate for an uninterrupted night’s sleep!
That’s when Clean Mom came up with a great idea!

Do you have any voicemails of your kids calling you and leaving you funny/touching/hilarious messages?
Do you listen to these messages when you’re having a bad day?
Do you wish you could save them on your computer?
I’ve had a voicemail message from Book Boy saved on my work voicemail box for about 1.5 years, had been meaning to transfer it to my computer and have finally gotten around to it (a round tuit?).
Find out how to save YOUR treasured voicemails and listen to the voicemail from Book Boy that cheers me up whenever I’m feeling down! Read the rest of this entry »

Episode 1 – Clean Mom making a sandwich for Book Boy
Book Boy (aged 6) – Mommy, is this mustard in my sandwich?
Clean Mom – Oops, yes it is, I forgot you don’t like mustard.
BB – Mommy, what were you thinking?!? Did your brain take a coffee break?
(Clean Mom couldn’t get upset because she was trying too hard not to laugh…) Read the rest of this entry »

(Driving along a busy street one afternoon)
Book Boy – Oh Mommy, look over there!
Clean Mom – What is it?
BB – I like that car over there!
CM – Which one?
BB – The red one with the black thing on the front!
(Incredible Dad starts bursting with pride as he thinks Book Boy is starting to develop an interest in high powered vehicles…)
Incredible Dad – That black thing is called a car bra. It protects the paint on the car from rocks and bugs. Why do you like that car?
(Wait for it…)

Clean Mom: Are there any potential Gold Medals for Canada tonight?
Incredible Dad: Isn’t there men’s figure skating tonight?
CM: No, that’s on Thursday. Besides, one of the Russian skaters will probably win gold.
Ballet Girl: You’re Russian, Mom!
CM: Pardon me?
BG: You’re Russian!
CM: No I’m not…
BG: Yes you are! You’re always “Russian” in the morning!
(ba-dum-bum! get it? Russian – Rushin’? nevermind…)

(Late one night, as we’re trying to get the kids ready for bed…)
Clean Mom – Daddy, you have to come see this.
Incredible Dad – What is it?
(I walk over to the kids washroom to take a look and see Ballet Girl proudly standing by with a big smile on her face.)
CM – Take a look at what Ballet Girl did all by herself to help out with the toothbrushes… (picture below) Read the rest of this entry »

Book Boy - “Daddy, it says here in the Marvel Encyclopedia that Harry Osborn is the son of the Green Goblin. After his Dad was defeated, Harry became the second Green Goblin.”
Incredible Dad – “Yes, that’s right.”
BB – “But I thought Harry was a good guy.”
ID – “Nope, he turned into a bad guy.”
BB – “But you said that deep down inside, everyone is good.”
ID – “Hmm… you’re right… I mean that Harry Osborn is good, deep down inside, but he made a lot of bad choices.”
BB – “Uh-huh…”
(Silence ensues as I wonder if he’s pondering the deep meaning and import of my last statement; when he suddenly says…) Read the rest of this entry »

This is our family… as depicted by one of Ballet Girl’s recent drawings. (In case you can’t tell, I’m the one on the far right.)
It never ceases to amaze me how fast time flies and how fleeting the most treasured moments are. Both Book Boy and Ballet Girl have said and drawn some hilarious, funny, adorable and sometimes unusually insightful things. Here are some tips to help you preserve these memories for years to come and a collection of things my kids have said over the last year to make you laugh (and to store online for posterity’s sake). Ballet Girl – Daddy, I want to see the Zambaloney machine.
Incredible Dad – You want to see what?
BG – The Zambaloney machine.
ID – Say it again please, sweetheart?
BG – The Zambaloney machine… Daddy, am I saying it wrong?
ID – (with a smile on his face and hoping that his daughter never loses her innocence, Incredible Dad says)
…… No sweetie, you’re saying it just fine.

Ballet Girl – Mommy, I want to sleep with you tonight.
Clean Mom – You can’t. I sleep with Daddy.
BG – But why are you allowed to sleep with Daddy?
CM – Because Mommy is married to Daddy.
BG – I WANT TO MARRY DADDY!!!!!!!
